Kylteriäiset
Kylteriäiset is a traditional event for new Warrantti’s students held every fall where every fresher becomes full-fledged member of our business student community. At the event, the freshers are divided into groups for a tour, where most of the student organizations, clubs and other active groups at the University of Vaasa are joining the fun!

Wykypäivät
Wykypäivät is a traditional student event at Vaasa, which gathers about a thousand students from all over Finland to race on the track, pedal in the Tropiclandia pool area with friends and have fun. Wykypäivä is traditionally organized at the Tropiclandia Spa where the day starts with a tour, continues in the tropical warmth of the spa and culminates in some amazing after parties.

The Annual Ball
The Annual Ball is an academic tradition that is worth experiencing at least once during your studies.
Dress up according to etiquette, a long, festive evening gown or tailcoat/dark-colored suit. A three-course dinner is served, accompanied by drinks. After dinner and dancing, the party continues until sunrise. Yet the party does not end here, but moreover continues the next morning with a Silliaamiainen. The annual ball is a two-day event that you’re sure to remember as one of the best weekends of your life!
Conduct and etiquette of the Annual Ball
The Annual Ball will be preceded by a cocktail -event where various interest groups will bring their greetings to Warrantti. It is essential to arrive early for the actual party. The Master of the Ceremony, who is usually identified by a baton, will conduct the ceremony. He announces the official programme and also manages the celebration. When the Master of Ceremonies has something to say, he bangs his baton, and then the guests should quiet down to listen. The programme consists mainly of speeches. The speeches shall be politely listened to and during them, conversation and eating should be refrained from. The programme also includes the distribution of various acknowledgements and commendations by Warrantti. In addition to the formal programme, the annual ball is characterized by singing, led by a song leader.
Seating is indicated on the table map in the ballroom. The seat is not taken until all the guests have arrived. The host couple is the last pair to arrive and only after the host couple takes a seat, all the guests shall be seated.
The table is set with all the equipment needed for the meal. The cutlery is used starting from the outside. At the end of the meal, the fork and knife are lowered at about five o’clock. If a napkin or cutlery falls on the floor in the middle of a meal, it is left there. After the meal, the napkin is simply folded and left on the table, not on the plate.
There are a few different rules relating to the menu. Appetizers can be started once the whole table has been served. Main course can be started when the guests immediately next to you have been served. It is not appropriate to leave the table until the hot food has been cleared away. Dessert is again started at the same time.
During the dinner, toasts are raised vigorously. The glass is raised to about eye level. The gentleman first looks the lady on his front right in the eyes, then to the front left and then forward. The lady raises toast in the opposite order, left-right-forward. Only then is the sip taken from the glass. The glasses are not clinked and empty glasses are not lifted. The attentive gentleman pays attention to his lady in everything; she is offered an arm every time she raises from the table (escorted to the table, to and from the ladies’ room and offered a chair back at the table).
After dinner, it’s off to the dance floor. After the dancing is over, the night continues at the afterparty and then on the Silliaamiainen the very next morning.
Clothing and academic honorary badges
For the Annual Ball guests can wear a tailcoat, a dark suit, or an evening gown.
With a tailcoat one can wear black patent leather or well-polished leather shoes. It is important that the shoes are thin-soled, so that you-ll get a good feel of the dance floor.
A dark suit should be black, dark grey or dark blue. A white collared shirt is always worn with a dark suit, and a vest of the same material as the suit also adds a touch of formality. The tie should be understated and festive and the shoes should be black.
If one chooses to wear an evening gown, it should be full-length and a festive material. The shoes worn with the dress should match the colour and material of the dress. For long hair, a hairstyle shall be festive and pinned up. If the doesn’t cover your shoulders, a shoulder scarf is recommended.
Academic insignia, decorations and badges of honour are usually worn at annual balls. Students at the University of Vaasa wear the green and white ribbon of Warranti and the red and yellow ribbon of the Student Union of the University of Vaasa.
- With a tailcoat or dark-colored suit, the ribbon is worn so that it descends from the right shoulder down and to the left. With a tailcoat, the ribbon is held between the waistcoat and the shirt, and the appropriate height is between the two pearl buttons on the tailcoat shirt. With a dark-colored suit, the ribbon is worn over the tie under the jacket. The ribbon should be fastened to the shirt, for example at the shoulder, with a safety pin to prevent it from moving out of place.
- With an evening gown, the ribbon is worn so that it descends from the left shoulder to the right. However, the ribbon must not touch bare skin. If it is not possible to wear the ribbon so that it doesn’t touch the skin, the ribbon is folded into a rosette and attached to the evening gown on the left on the bosom, for example with a safety pin.
- In addition to the Student Union Ribbon, student unions, and other student bodies award various merit and honour medals, which are used in accordance with their instructions.
Warrantti’s subject organization ribbon can be purchased from the W-room during its office hours and the University of Vaasa Student Union ribbon can be purchased from the VYY Service Office.
